The plain-English definition
An ecosystem is a biological word borrowed to mean "a bunch of related things that interact." In biology it means organisms and their environment, all balanced and interdependent. In business it means: we have several products, and we would like them to sound like they belong together.
The word does a lot of lifting. "A suite of tools" sounds like software. "An ecosystem" sounds like a living world you could wander through. Same stuff, grander frame.
The gap
Here is the quiet truth: calling something an ecosystem does not make the parts work together. Plenty of "ecosystems" are just a product page with five logos on it. Users do not experience an ecosystem; they use the one tool that works and ignore the other four.
The word sells the idea of integration. The integration is sold separately — and often not delivered at all.
